Presented by Jef Cumps and Kris Philippaerts

Abstract:

How do people learn new things? And what’s the best way to teach people new stuff? This session provides some initial answers to these questions. Or no, even better, this session will allow and facilitate you to find the answer to these questions yourself! And you’ll be triggered to further explore the world of training and facilitation.

This session provides the concepts from Sharon Bowman’s bestseller ‘Training from the back of the room’ to make you a better facilitator and trainer.

Format and length:

90 mins interactive workshop.

Intended audience and prerequisites:

This session is not only for ‘trainers’ that are teaching courses. You will also benefit from this session if you are:
– a ScrumMaster or Agile coach facilitating meetings, coaching teams and explaining Agile to people
– a Product Owner or business person aligning people and visions and explaining needs to stakeholders and teams
– a project manager or manager presenting stuff to teams, peers and management and providing a learning environment for teams
– a team member explaining stuff to peers, customers and management (and maybe giving presentations or demo’s to peers or customers once in a while)

Objective(s) of the session:

The objective of this session is to have participants both learn and experience what training from the back of the room means. The content of the session will prepare participants to start facilitating trainings, presentations and meetings better when they walk out of the room.

Benefits for participants and presenter(s):

As a result of this session, you will look differently at learning and at your own role and responsibility as a trainer or facilitator. You’ll be a better trainer providing optimal learning environments for people. And you will also be better in presenting stuff and in facilitating meetings, workshops, etc so they yield better results in the end.
