Presented by Nicole Belilos and Vincent Lussenburg

Abstract:

The setting: A big company that has recently introduced Agile.
The problem: Agile does not work! It has led to later product delivery and the costs have doubled.
The offender: An Agile team. They don’t deliver. They don’t succeed. Obviously, they are lazy!

As a coach, you are hired to solve this problem. Management tells you to make this team work harder. So what will you do?

Too often, when faced with a problem, we jump to easy and fast conclusions. In this session you will learn techniques to look at the entire problem first. Often you will discover that there are many causes, and probably some unexpected solutions.

Come and join the Lazy Team. Be the tester, the developer or the Scrum Master, and see the world through their eyes. And while you are playing this game, you will learn about Leary’s Rose, visualization and system thinking. And you will probably learn something new about yourself, too.

Note: the number of participants for this session is limited to 28

Format and length:

90 minutes role-playing game

Intended audience and prerequisites:

This game is suitable for anyone who wants to learn how to solve complex problems with multiple causes and solutions. It is interesting to Scrum Masters and Agile coaches in particular, but anyone with some experience on an Agile team can come, learn and enjoy.

Objective(s) of the session:

In this game we want people to learn how to deal with a big problem such as a non-productive team. Instead of accepting the most obvious cause, we want them to dig deeper and find out the forces that influence a situation.

Another objective is to have people discover new parts of themselves by taking on a role and personality that might be removed from their core personality.

Did we mention fun? We will have fun too!

Benefits for participants and presenter(s):

Participants will learn that there are always many sides to a story.
The presenters hope to get feedback on their game, so that they can make it even better.
